History of the Band
McGill's Community Band of Houlton was organized in 1985 as the fulfillment of David McGillicuddy's dream.
As instrumental director of M.S.A.D. #29, David had dreamed of forming a community band made up of local
musicians that would perform in Monument Park on nice summer eveningsas had been done in days past by the
Houlton Town Band. In 1985 approximately 55 area musicians came together to form McGill's CommunityBand of Houlton. Today
the band consists of approximately 80 musicians from AroostookCounty,Maine and New Brunswick as well as out of
state summer residents. Current director of the band is Mr. Joseph Fagnant, Houlton High School instrumental music director.
McGill's Community Band of Houlton has been delighting audiences of all ages for 20 consecutive summers.
Outdoor concerts are performed every Thursday evening (weather permitting) in Monument Park in the Houlton Amphiteatre,
beginning in mid June. The band also participates in Houlton's Fourth of July festivities. The summer concert season ends in
late August.
